Title: Door panels
Post by: formula46two on January 02, 2023, 06:38:17 PM
Who is the best source for the 1977 Deluxe door panels with the map pockets?

Best panels are by far those from Legendary. They cost more than pui but worth it. I get my stuff from Ames, their prices are comparable with others I think. They also have the hard plastic lower panels.

PUI increased their prices, so honestly, it's starting to become a toss up of whatever shows up first. I've just received brand new PUI black deluxe door trims, they still suck because they don't put the map pockets in the lower pockets for some reason on 78-81's, but at least they showed up on time. Legendary probably has a year long backlog.

Depending on what you are after. The Legendary are def. a better quality part and more correct. PUI is nice for the price to have something on there that is not ratty, but the two do not compare. I have seen both side by side. I am sure Legendary prices have gone up as well. And yes, last I checked they were about 9 months out!

Nice comparison.  I wonder if anything has changed over the years with PUI quality?

Depending on what panels you are after, check all of the parts suppliers, NPD, Ames, Classic, Year One etc. Maybe call them and ask rather than a website. I was looking for door panels for my TATA in the fall of '21. Every online source said back ordered. I started to call, got ahold of a guy at NPD that thought they may have had something that was not shown. He physically found one pair sitting on the shelf which I promptly ordered. Other than that (at that time anyway) everyone including Legendary was telling me 6-8 months minimum.

I inadvertently ordered the wrong pair of door panels when I was restoring my 77. As most parts I buy, they sat in the box for months before I even opened them. When the time came and I realized I had made a mistake I called Legendary and they replaced them with the correct part with no problem. I think I paid the shipping. This left a great impression on me as to their customer service.
