This is the Air box I got for my 79 400 4sp. The large hole and the do-hickey plastic thing line up north/south (12oclock 6 oclock) on the motor. The cuttout for the vent tube is about 7/8 o clock. I was told that the vent tube should be at 9 o clock and it should be a straight vent tube. The tube I have has a crook in it and lines up perfect. Hope this is not too confusing.
What is Correct?

On a 79, the 9 o'clock and single bend vent tube is correct. I looked through my TANats pictures to figure this out, but the dogleg version persisted until 1976

The square hole is on the right. I had to replace the grommet in the valve cover about a year ago. Here is a picture of the straight tube and the old grommet:

Perfect. I think I can fill and patch the existing hole and ad another easily enough. Now to find the tube!
