Title: Hood alignment question
Post by: stros on August 20, 2023, 04:58:53 PM
Took the TA out for a nice cruise on the freeway today and noticed that the front driver side of the hood is sitting a bit above the fender.  Is this a sign my hinges are worn out?  If not any suggestions on how to adjust the hinges so it sits more
flush.

It sits a bit flatter after pressing it back down, though it isn’t as flush as the passenger side.

Interesting, it looks like it's flush with the nose/ leading edge of the fender. Did you try to push the back down, by the hinge area? Wonder if it is the hinge??

I had been focused on that front corner but just went out and pressed down a bit on the rear of the hood.  Looks better from the side now - though still a tad high from the front viewpoint.  I’ll have to see if it lifts again after the next drive.

FYI These are original hinges but a repop OER hood.

Thanks for your help!

If adjusting, remember that it moves opposite how you want it to sit. As in, to get the hood to sit down a tiny bit, you don't move the hinge down a tiny bit, you lift it, allows the hood to drop further due to the ratio movement. If that doesn't work, try the opposite!
Worn out is often when a hood can lift slightly after already being down, or can be pushed down a little by hand when sticking up. Can also be a sign there's more adjustment room. When hood is open, keep an eye on any twist, or new wear areas being polished.

Thanks Wallington.  There is definitely a bit of play on the driver side.  None on the passenger side.

Aah fair enough, could try to adjust slightly if it is annoying to look at!
I haven't had a hood on mine for 15 years. It was meant to be 6 months, but not sure how the current reproductions compare to finding a good used set, albeit not known until installed. For a while there guys were posting about how easily the new ones would bend or twist, a while ago though.

I think I’ll try to fend off my OCD and live with it.  Maybe I’ll adjust up the passenger side hood bumper so it looks more even with the driver side

Mine does that ever so slightly. I dont think its the hinge, I believe mine hits the rubber bumper that is mounted to the fender top. I usually dont worry about it too much but a slight push and it will go down into place.
